Happy Birthday to my Journal - 4 years old on July 10 and my web site is 6 years old on July 10 ! Can't imagine life without my internet friends.
I have been thinking about getting the latest version of ICQ. Does any one use ICQ any more? Can anyone recommend other good sites for interactive conversions? Either keyed or voice?
Only Robert Miller (vanrijngo) played the 'play it forward' game and he will be getting something in the mail. Julie will be getting something too. Julie sent a cute tissue holder she sewed - dark blue with cats and dogs. Thank you Julie!
Early this spring I participated in 4 5K (3.1 miles) Fun Walk Runs. Lots of fun and nice shirts from all of them as well as other freebies.
Sunday April 27 5K Bun Run Walk - StoneRidge in Wautoma - this one had the most generous gifts.
Saturday May 3 RMC 5K Fun Run Walk - Waupaca
Saturday May 17 5K Run Walk - Berlin
Hadn't bowled for a long time because of the leagues keeping the lanes full and a spring semester class - now that summer is here the alleys have open lanes in the evenings - bowled 126 and 138 on July 1 and 109, 101, 101 on July 9. My friend bowled either a strike or spar for every frame of the 3rd game last Wed for a score of 205.
Attended a 4 day tennis camp first part of June at Ripon College. Any future tennis camps will be over in Minnesota at Gustavus Adolphus College Tennis and Life camp A 5 hour drive and higher priced, but a better quality camp without the competitions, a better focus, and with fun and games. I remember the college student tennis camp teachers all came out for their introductions dressed as and acting like certain tennis pros.
Found a fun tennis player on meetup.com and we've been playing Tuesday nights.
Took 2 quilting classes at the stitching store where I learned to knit. The first from Basic Quilting ( 3 sessions) is called 3 Rails and it's ready for the back, layering and front to be put together. The second was a 2 session class and is made by putting each 7.5 square together with batting and back and then sewing the squares together. So far I only have 2 squares together, but lots of pieces cut up and stitched in rows to be cut further. I especially enjoy crochet and am so grateful to Rayne for introducing me to it. And the beautiful afghan that she made for me is given extra special treatment.
At the tennis camp I met a guy who is a Horticulturist - he told me about the Master Gardener program. 48 state University extensions offer this. I start the Madison UW extension's Master Gardener program Wed night - every other Wed until Dec 19. You have to put forth hours of community service related to the education - such as answering questions from the general public, working in their office, manning their booth at garden shows, etc. I have heard good things about the University extension programs and am looking forward to this. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_Gardener
For a map of the US go to ahs.org/master_gardeners/index.htm and click on your state to find your website for the Master Gardener program. Some of the sites are quite pretty.
As of today we have broadband on the phone here in the wilderness. How I have missed the good internet access I had with Road Runner. It had been over 3 years with that pitiful Centurytel dial up. Now I just need to figure out how to set my computer to wireless, as I had indicated no when I first set my new computer up in 2001. Because of this there is not a wireless option when going through Connect to - Show all Connections. Any ideas?
Only 6 weeks left of free time this summer. Fall semester starts the last week in August. Had planned to bike after work on the rails to trails again, but between all the rain, wind and quilting classes, just haven't been able to bring the bike along. 4 classes starting in the fall as a full time Photography student. Luckily all the gen eds transferred in. One class in Friday morning and since I'm lucky enough to have a generous vacation schedule - vacation days will be taken on Fridays in order to get this class in. Classes for 1st semester are: Photo Composition (2 credits), Studio Photography 1 (3 credits), Lighting Technique ( 2 credits), Intro to Electronic Design (2 credits). Looks like I'll need to be taking vacation on Thursday afternoons for the spring 2009 semester. Was on the wait list since January 2007 for the evening program which is every other year, but it appears to be not quite all evenings. Greatly looking forward to this on Mon, Tues, Thur nights and Friday mornings. And Friday afternoons are free to study, attend the quilt expo in Sept, Folk Fair in Nov..... In 2 days the summer months will be half over. Why does spring and summer just fly by and winter goes on and one forever? Have been eating lettuce and radishes out of my garden. Green beans will be ready to pick next weekend. The snap dragons are loaded with tiny little blossoms - should be brilliant by next weekend.

Has anyone done Fun Run Walks ? I'm training for my first 2 Fun Run Walks on April 27 and May 3 in small rural communities. The 5K walks = 3.1 miles. Today I walked 4 miles in 1 hour 3 min. The first 3 miles were within 48 min. My goal is to complete the 5K (3.1 miles) within 1 hour. Will need to walk these. Joined Weight Watchers at work and it is a good program. When I get 30 - 35 pounds off and back to my normal weight of 30+ years I will try to run again. My knees would not take it now. The photo above was when I weighed my normal natural weight during the years that I could eat anything I wanted to and never gained. The Weight Watchers group is very positive with an easy to understand point system that encourages fruits, vegetables, dairy, water, fiber, exercise and not sweets and fats. I never wanted to join as I thought it was too expensive, but it is a good quality program. The fun run walks are also a good motivator for exercise in preparing.

5 weeks and 10 classes left of the Audiovisual Techniques class. We're working with movies from photos using the Ken Burns technique, music and sound effects.

I hope everyone has a Happy Easter weekend!
March was in like a lion. Out like a lamb ?

Finished reading 'Cat on the Scent' last night. Mrs. Murphy (tiger cat), Pewter (gray cat) and Tucker (corgi) see a single engine plane land during the fog next to a barn, a civil war reenactment and more adventures while Harry's pets and other animals watch, listen and help solve mysteries in Crozet, Virginia. Cute story.

8 What is creme brule?
The elegant dessert creme brulee has a thick pudding base of cream and eggs topped by a delicate layer of caramelized sugar. In French, "creme brulee" means "burnt cream," which refers to the process by which sprinkled sugar gets heated to a temperature that caramelizes it to a delicious brown. The traditional method of cooking this type of custard has evolved many flavored variations, but the simplest is often the best.
A basic recipe for creme brulee involves few fancy steps or specialized equipment. Boil cream in a saucepan over medium heat, then whisk in egg yolks. Over reduced heat, stir until thickened, such that it can coat the sides of the pan. Some people bake the mixture in a water bath, which protects the ingredients from uneven or harsh heat. Pour the batter into a set of ceramic ramekins until the middles are still loose but the border is firm. Chill them in the refrigerator for several days. When ready to serve, sprinkle them with a uniform layer of granulated white cane sugar. Quickly expose the tops to a hot flame, either a chef's torch or an oven broiler, so the sugar darkens to a rich brown but doesn't get charred.
Creme brulee combines minimalist flavors in a partly chilled yet partly heated dessert. Of course, there are many established variations on the flavor of cream and sugar that add spices, nuts, liqueurs, or toppings. For instance, some chefs mix in cinnamon, vanilla extract, coconut, pumpkin, melted chocolate, or concentrated espresso to make seasonal varieties. Others use rich, heavy liqueurs like creme de cassis, bourbon, or creme de menthe for a spicy flair. If decorative ramekins aren't fancy enough, you can add a sprig of mint, fresh berries, shaved chocolate, dried coconut, chopped hazelnuts, or an edible flower such as a nasturtium to entice guests to fully appreciate their first spoonful of decadent creme brulee.

Does anyone have experience with Apple computers?
What do you like about them or not like about them?
Advantages or disadvantages?
I’m working on an Apple computer during my evening class and have a feeling I will really like it once I get used to it.
