Surviving January

I made the Dean’s list fall semester !

This semester’s evening classes are Color Photography, Studio Photography 2 (both 3 credits) and Photojournalism (2 credits).  Our Photojournalism instructor works days for the city newspaper and the assignments sound like a stretch, but fun.  We are finally away from the film 4 x 5 view cameras and are going digital in the studio class, except for the nude assignment.  After these 3 classes I will have completed the first year of the 2 year program.

Last Sat. was Eagle Days in Prairie du Sac.  A nature photographer talked from 9 – 10.  At 10 we had a bus tour of 3 places to see Eagles on the Wisconsin River.  One of the overlooks had telescopes set up to view the Eagles sitting on an island.  The Bald Eagles are in the area Jan – Feb to catch fish.  11 -12 was an interesting presentation -  Birds of Prey -  by the Rapture Center from the College of Veterinary Science of St. Paul.  Laura had 2 hawks, a Great Horned Owl and a female Eagle.   The River Arts Center is part of the high school and it looks like a nice place to attend future events.  I missed the pancake breakfast and the wine tasting at a local vineyard.

Finishing reading several of the James Qwilleran and his Siamese cats  series.   I see the latest book, The Cat who Smelled Smoke, has been postponed from the April 2008 release.  The author, Lilian Jackson Braun, is 96 and I hope she is in good health.

I love shorthand – no wonder it is my obsolete skill.

What obsolete skill are you ?

You are 'Gregg shorthand'. Originally designed to enable people to write faster, it is also very useful for writing things which one does not want other people to read, inasmuch as almost no one knows shorthand any more.
You know how important it is to do things efficiently and on time. You also value your privacy, and (unlike some people) you do not pretend to be friends with just everyone; that would be ridiculous. When you do make friends, you take them seriously, and faithfully keep what they confide in you to yourself. Unfortunately, the work which you do (which is very important, of course) sometimes keeps you away from social activities, and you are often lonely. Your problem is that Gregg shorthand has been obsolete for a long time.

CONGRATULATIONS on making the Dean's list Connie. Wow, I like the shorthand and was surprised that I could still read it. I took the quiz and came up with "Latin", now that is obsolete.;)
